What is fashion nowadays? I find it to be such a fleeting concept, a struggle for designers to bring out the next great thing in order to remain relevant. I love fashion, I love clothing but have to admit that it is increasingly frustrating and difficult to dress myself in a world where a certain body type is idealized. I am a curvy girl for which brands forget to bring out clothes. Or they don’t want to associate with my body type. Either way, plus size has become synonymous with lazy, unhealthy people who just don’t care about appearance. But guess what? We do care. We would love to spend more money (or the same amount of money) on pieces that flatter each body type and make us feel not only comfortable, but beautiful, special, appreciated and included. I applaud and love curvy models that are changing the game and fighting for equality in the fashion industry (Ashley Graham, Hunter McGrady etc). There are some brands that are getting with the times, expanding and including more sizes and offer more variety. But the possibilities are endless. I, for one, dream of the day I don’t have to alter my jeans because my waist is smaller than my bum or don’t have to struggle finding a coat because the bottom doesn’t fit the top.
I want to share my shopping experiences with you, want to show you where and how I shop, want to discover with you and bring forth the timeless beauty of some pieces that never go out of style. My grandmother was the epitome of elegance. I’ll be sharing some pictures with you in the months to come, some of you have had the pleasure to meet her before she passed away too early. She drilled some basics into me, “rules” I still carry with me. And although times change and some issues may seem outdated, some rules will always be of value. Remember what Gianni Versace used to say: “Don’t be into trends. Don’t make fashion own you, but you decide what you are, what you want to express by the way you dress and the way you live.”
One must never forget, “style is something each of us already has, all we need to do is find it.” (Diane von Fürstenberg)
My personal challenge will be to stop wearing all black, to pick out colors again and dare to be bold once more. Whatever issues you want me to address, leave a comment in the section below or mail me with ideas. Always up for new subjects.
